The umushanana (plural: imishanana) is the traditional ceremonial dress of women in Rwanda. It consists of a wrapped skirt bunched at the hips and a sash draped over one shoulder, typically worn over a tank top or bustier. [Photo taken in honor of

I am a Rwandan-Canadian visual artist obsessed with patterns and color play. Mostly inspired by traditional Rwandan patterns called “imigongo” which I’ve remixed, in my own unique abstract contemporary way.

Born of two cultures. Growing up and living between the North American & African continents- I have found a mosaic of inspirations throughout my journey; which have imprinted into my experience. Fueled by a desire to honor my heritage and those who are no longer with us. I am here to be of service to legacy and help insure the cultural preservation through an art form which is dear to my heart. I invite you to come see & discover more about the influences behind my obsessively meticulous patterns and my fascination with the vibrancy of color work.

The beauty of our human experience is that we can each share our own unique perspective. Looking forward to sharing mine with you.

Welcome! This is a snapshot of my very first art exhibit which occurred on April 6th, 2018 in Brooklyn, NY.

The show included pieces from my ‘Calculated Chaos’ collection and it was dedicated to the memory of my mother who passed the year prior. She was my biggest inspiration and in fact, used to paint as well!

Enjoy the visuals; including a glimpse of my speech thanking all my supporters.
